The Truth about Adwords and All Pay Per Click Advertising!

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This is actually the truth about all Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising like Google Adwords

Yes, I am going to tell you what a lot of people haven’t told you yet!

=> It is true that Pay Per Click advertising is a great way to get instant traffic to your site.

=> It is true that Pay Per Click advertising can increase your sales over night.

=> It is true that you can make money working as an affiliate with Pay Per Click Adverting and you don’t even need your own website.

=> But the most important thing you need to know is MOST PEOPLE LOOSE MONEY using Pay Per Click Advertising.

The main reason for this is because they jump into it without really knowing what they are doing.

Imagine if you have never seen a car in your life and then some one tells you about them.

You jump into the car and start driving, do you think you would be successful the first time you tried?

OK, so you are one of the ones that says, “Yes, it is easy, I would be successful the first time!” This might even be true for some people but now let’s change that car to a jet fighter or the space shuttle. Do, you still think you would be successful the first time?

Probably not.

Adwords and other Pay Per Click advertising is just like this. If you spend some time learning how to use it your chances of success will greatly increase. If you just jump in you will probably crash.

Google Adwords is especially complex. Not because it is hard to use, you can sign up today and have your ads running in minutes. But to use it right you need to learn about all the tools in your account.

* How to do split testing!

* How to read your statistics!

* The different type of campaigns you can run!

* How to track your conversions!

* How to find the right keywords!

It sounds like a lot but if you don’t know these things you will probably be loosing money on your campaigns.

Believe it or not you can actually do all of these items with the tools built right into Google Adwords. Yes, they give you all the tools you need but you have to figure out how to use them before they will give you the results you are looking for.

Before you get into any type of Pay Per Click advertising or any paid advertising you should do some research on the subject. Just like you should do some research on driving a car before you jump behind the wheel.

There are lots of free and paid tools and courses available to help you run your Pay Per Click or Adwords campaigns. Use them, believe me the time you spend studying will be saved in both time and money in the long run.

Another key thing to note when you start using Adwords or any Pay Per Click it that it works much better if you are targeting a non Internet Marketing / non money making niche, especially for affiliate programs.

In other words you stand a much better chance of creating profits if you are promoting a hair care product then a product that will show you how to make a million dollars online.

How To Be An Expert Without Knowing A Thing

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

OK, you want to make a product but you don know enough information to create a product, how can you be an expert?

Well, you aren’t actually the expert but you will be seen as an expert by association. You do this quite simply by interviewing people that are experts on the subject.

How do you get interviews?

The easiest way is to start going to seminars and conferences covering the topic you want to create the product about and just ask the experts on the subject, you will be surprised at how many will actually jump at the opportunity.

If you can’t get to these events then you can check their websites and use the contact form to request an interview.

Remember this is also usually a benefit to the person you are interviewing too. It puts their name out in the spotlight and marks them as even a better expert then before. In the Internet marketing niche the interviewee will often ask for rights to sell or use the product when you are done so it also works to create a new product for them.

How do you get the interview recorded?

If you are at an event, seminar or conference you can simply record it will a digital recorder or your computer and a microphone.

If it is something you set up over a distance you can use a conference line. There are a number of services out there that will provide you with a free conference line.

  1. You just sign up
  2. You get the number a
  3. Ask the person when they are available to call in
  4. Meet them on the call
  5. Record it

Most but not all services offer to record the calls and let you download it. If you click on any of the text that says conference line in a different color it will take you to a free service that offers the conference line and recordings.

Before you start your interview make sure you provide a copy of the questions to the interviewee and ask them if there are any other questions they would like you to ask or if there are any questions they would like you to avoid. You don’t want to surprise them but remember you can edit the audio after it is recorded.

Do I Need To Know HTML To Make Money Online?

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

The simple answer to this is no you don’t need to know HTML to make money online but there is a rather large caveat or two.

If you don’t know HTML, at least a little, you will have to hire someone to do everything you want to do online. This means you have to have:

  1. Money – at least enough to payout to get every thing done until you start making money.
  2. A Techie – this has to be someone that understands HTML and website creation that you can contact at any time to change or create something for you.
  3. Some one that knows enough about HTML and the internet to tell you if you are being ripped off by the techie above.

You should be #3 above. If you know at least the basics then you will be able to tell if you are being ripped off by the “techie”

It also helps if you know a little about it so that you can tell the techie what you want in a way that THEY will understand it.

This doesn’t mean that you have to be an expert at HTML, PHP or CSS but you should know enough about it to know if the information you have is enough for the person to create a website and again I will come back to the MONEY issue.

For example you want all the links on your site to have the same look and feel. For this reference we will say that you have a 5 page site that the techie created for you and about 20 links on it.

You tell the techie that you want all the links to be blue and when you put the mouse over them you want a yellow background to appear.

The techie thinks about this for a second and says, “We will have to create a cascading style sheet and create a class for the links to do this. Then we will have to go in and manually update all the links on each page individually. I can probably do this for you for about $150.00.”

Is this a good price???

If you don’t know then what is a good price?

$250

$350

$50

To me for this type of work it should only take them about ½ an hour and $50 is more then adequate. You could probably find someone on RentACoder that would do it for less then that.

If you have an unlimited supply of money and you don’t mind getting ripped off then don’t worry about knowing any of the mechanics behind a website. But if you are like a majority of the people out there that is just starting out and don’t have the money to pay some one to do the work then I suggest you learn at least the basics.

Remember there are only two things you can use as leverage to get your business going they are time and money. Which ever you have the most of is what you will need to spend.

And now for a shameless plug. I have a site called Marketing Beginners that will gie you all the basics of HTML and some CSS and some PHP and it is free. You can sign up just by clicking anywhere on the site where you see the words Marketing Beginners in blue. Or use the link to the right under My Sites.

Using Your Products To Create Website Traffic

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

One of the best ways to get traffic to your website is to make sure you have a link to your site in every product you sell or giveaway. Especially with products that have resell or giveaway rights, this way when other people sell your product you can get traffic from it.

I am amazed at the number of products that I see and download that don’t tell me where I got them, where they originated from this even includes products given away on squeeze pages. People just take the giveaway or master resale rights product and give it away without adding anything to bring them back to their site.

OK, OK, I hear you. You are saying, “But I don’t have the rights to change the product!”

No one said you needed to change the product.

There are a number of ways you can get noticed and have the users of a product (even if it isn’t yours) come back to your site.

For example: Repackaging

Most of the time for repackaging you will need a program to Zip the files. I use winzip but the free version doesn’t allow you to create zip files it only allows you to unzip them. The guys at Coffee Cup have a free program that will let you zip file called Zip Wizard that will create your zip files for you.

Repackage the download and include your own special instruction sheet with a link to your site or sites.

Repackage the download and with a special report that increases the value of the product, include this as a bonus and make sure it has links back to your site or sites.

If your product is a pdf you can use a PDF brander like PDF Profitlock to wrap your pdf file. This will make it possible for you to put a splash page that they will see whenever they open the file and a splash page they will see whenever they close the file.

There is one draw back to wrapping a PDF. That is the file gets changed from a .pdf to a .exe file and isn’t compatible with Mac’s. Depending on your niche this might be fine or disastrous. When I look at the stats for my sites I average 1% to 3% Mac users so for most of my sites this wouldn’t be a major problem. But if you are selling Mac accessories this would be a major problem. Use your best judgment because you should know your niche much better then I do.
